Hi GEMS,
Its your girl Nidhi and today we will cover a starter kit of sorts where we talk about hair and essential oils: which ones to choose, depending on your requirements.
With a whole range of oils available on the market, it is fairly complex to choose which ones are going to suit you the best. In this article we dig deep into what oils work in which manner and thus which ones are best for you.
Aromatherapy is a practice older than this millennium, known to be in practice as early as 3500 BCE for both religious and medicinal practices. India, along with Egypt and China is known to be one of the pioneers of aromatherapy. However, it was the French scientist and chemist Rene-Maurice Gattefosse who coined the therapy in 1935 when he claimed he treated some burns with lavender essential oil.
The following is the structure of our hair:
Under the skin surface there's Sebum which is produced by the Sebaceous Gland, in simple terms the oil that is secreted naturally from the scalp. The most important part of this diagram is the hair follicle. Hair follicle is a tubelike structure that surrounds the roots of your hair. Very often, we need to give our hair follicles an extra push so that they can grow out.
Let's take a look at some of the most easily available (and inexpensive) essential oils that help hair grow and flourish healthy.
Peppermint Oil
Peppermint oil is high on menthol, a chemical that helps in increasing the number of hair follicles as well as their depth. The deeper the hair follicle, the stronger your hair will be. The main reason why this works is because menthol is known to increase blood circulation on the scalp and peppermint essential oil is 40% menthol.
Rosemary Oil
Rosemary is a herb with its origin in the Mediterranean. It smells fabulous and is known to help prevent hair loss (because of its anti-inflammatory qualities) and support regrowth of hair by cell turnover. Rosemary also reduces the amount of dihydrotestosterone in the hair follicles which helps them grow.
Rosemary is also known to have a 'positive vibe' thing going on so its a really good option.
Lemon Oil
If you remember your grandma telling you to apply lemon on your hair, well she was right. Lemon has antibacterial qualities and it helps in increasing the blood circulation. It helps in cleaning and revitalising your hair hair follicles.
Jojoba Oil
Jojoba contains natural forms of Vitamin E which is an essential component of hair nourishment. Jojoba oil is helps in reducing hair breakage as it strengthens the hair shaft and prevents hair loss.
If you have been facing hair loss or are concerned about the health of your hair, the first thing to do is get a haircut so that you're free from split ends and can focus completely on your hair and scalp. This however doesn't have to stop you from having gorgeous hair.
