Let us simplify caring for your hair extensions.

“A lady's hair is her crowning glory”

― Jeannette Walls, Half Broke Horses

We always say that thy hair is thy crown and Jeanette Walls seams to agree with us. Usually, caring for your extensions gets tricky because you tend to forget the fact that they are real and organic and need the same amount of care as your own hair. If you use real human hair or Remy extensions (like the ones we provide), this article is a perfect place for you to begin caring about your beloved style enhancers.

Your extensions are made of real human hair, which means that you will need to take care of them just like you take care of your real hair. This can be a little daunting but to make this easier for you, we provide an extension hanger and a coat bag that will help you store the extension. Please keep in mind that the less you wash your Gemeria Clip-ins, the longer they will last you.

“A good hair brings good luck!”

― Chinonye J. Chidolue

Make sure you comb through your extensions every once in a while to get rid of the tangles. This will make sure that your extensions don't get overtly rough or unruly. Use a brush that has soft bristles so that it does not damage the cuticles on your extensions. Once you are done detangling the hair extensions, it is now time to wash them.

"Her hair was every shade of purple, piled in buns and hanging in braids, and all of it sprinkled with gems like stars.”

― Brenda Cooper, Edge of Dark

Now, if you use extensions on a regular basis, it would make sense to wash them every two months or so, just to ensure that they are ready to be styled.

If you don't use extensions on a regular basis, it is alright if you wash them after you have used them about ten times or so. We already provide hygienically, shampooed, and conditioned hair, which is why your extensions always smell good and are smooth when you hold and wear them.

Since hair extensions do not get consistent nourishment from the scalp like natural hair, it is important to choose the right products to keep your extensions looking and feeling luxurious. We recommend at least choosing alcohol-free and sulfate-free shampoos and conditioners, as these ingredients can dry the hair out, leading to fizziness, matting, or tangling.

Use the same shampoo you use for your own hair, remove the hanger before you wash the extensions and gently wash through the entire set from top to bottom. Since this product is on the sensitive side it makes sense to be very careful when you're cleaning them.

We recommend that you clean them in warm water and after applying the conditioner, rinse them with cold water. It is very important that you rinse the extensions thoroughly so that the product does not stay on the hair.

Once you are done with the cleaning, it is time to dry them. You need to first comb through the entire set just to make sure there aren't any tangles because of the washing (which happens and is completely normal). We recommend brushing your extensions before and after use, as well as throughout the day with a paddle brush or detangling hairbrush or wide tooth comb to avoid any knots or breakage. After combing through, use a micro fiber towel to dry the hair. This helps in ensuring that you don't damage the hair with the roughness of a regular towel.

You will have to dry the extensions in a shaded area that does not have wind, you can also use a blow-dry - just ensure that the temperature is not too high.

Once you're through with the drying (along with the drying of the wefts - the place where the clips are placed) you can style them however you like, or store them right away without styling if you aren't using them immediately.

Since Gemeria Clip-ins are colored hair as well like our own, so it will fade. For prolonging the hair color try to use color protectant shampoo and conditioner while washing, but as already suggested frequent washes aren’t needed!

It is important to store hair neatly to prevent any further tangling or damage when you’re not using your extensions, that’s why your GEMS will include a hair extension carrier inside the box to help you store it safely. In the case of Single Clips, they will come in a small zip-lock bag (check pictures for reference).

So caring for extensions is relatively easier than caring for your own hair, which is why I recommend you check out the best hair extensions in town on this very website.
